Harp Study at Preucil

In recent years, a generation of harpists has evolved using the Suzuki method. These harpists are playing at higher levels at younger ages. There are harps of all sizes for every age, from the pre-school to adult. This allows for early involvement with the instrument and leads to life-long enjoyment of music.

Harpists are provided with these musical opportunities:

Individual Lessons
Students ages four and older (including adults) may enroll in individual weekly lessons.

Recitals
Students perform annually in a formal recital held in Wilson Auditorium or the North Campus. Optional recitals include Book Recitals and Solo Recitals for advanced students.

Group Class and Harp-Ins
Harp group class and play-ins will be offered throughout the year at no charge. Meeting times will be arranged for the convenience of all participants.

Master Classes
Occasionally, visiting performing artists work with our advanced students. All students are encouraged to attend.

Certificate Program
Students in grades 9-12 may participate in this two-year program, which is structured to challenge each student to read, write, hear and perform the musical language with a high degree of literacy. Required classes include Literature and Materials of Music, Group Piano Instruction, Chamber Music and Private Instrumental Lessons. This program is supported through a gift to the school.

Local Performances
Preucil School harp students will have the opportunity to take part in community outreach performances throughout the year. Venues include the University of Iowa Museum of Art, Hancher Lobby, UIHC, Mercy Hospital and area retirement residences.
